The story of Drouin Calvados began around 1960. There was nothing to indicate that Christian Droulin was destined to make a career in spirits. Nothing, that is, apart from his taste for good food and good wines. When he bought a farm he decided to use the cider-apple orchards to produce Calvados. His aim was simple; produce the best, top-quality spirit. The first "Pomme Prisonniere" was marketed by Calvados Christian Drouin in 1981. Since that time, "Pomme Prisonniere" has been so successful that the trade mark is now often mistaken for a generic name.
The only gin incorporating 30 apple varieties and 8 different aromatics. Each aromatic is seperately distilled before being blended in proportions that are unique to each batch. Rose and Lemon provide delicacy. Ginger, vanilla, cinnamon and almond give the gin a smooth, spicy body while cardamom enhances its fruit and roundness in the mouth. Juniper and apple complement one another with their heavy or high notes, spicy or crisp.
The cider from the Calvados producer Christian Drouin is elaborate, starting from about thirty varieties of cider apples, of which a majority of bitter apples (70%) rich in tannins which confer its body, soft apples (20%) which bring fruit flavours alongside acidic apples (10%) to balance the structure in the mouth.
